Twisted Scripture Refuted

2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMP
16 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),
17 So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We as christians are commanded to test under the direction of the Holy Spirit using the word of God, the sword of the Spirit (1Jn 4:1;Acts 17:11;Eph 6:17).

The King’s sword, the word of God is a basic tool of discernment. (1 Ki 3:24; He 4:12)

Christians are usually met with some kind of oppostion when they do this. Here is some of the oppostion I’ve met — where scripture is twisted in attempt to silence the one testing or correcting.

    • Judge Not? Matthew 7:1
This verse is often quoted when questions arise about exposing error, false teaching or false teachers. Does this really mean NEVER judge, NEVER expose error, NEVER refute error publicly? What does this verse really mean?
    • Refusing to Judge – Judge Not!
We do not need to judge, we only need to show love! – Is it really true that we never need to judge? What are the consequences of NEVER judging?
    • Jesus Came to Save – NOT Judge! We should do likewise. Is this true??
    • Mercy Triumphs Over Judgement
Many think this means to overlook sin or false teaching and just “love” on people – do not judge! Is this true?
    • There is NO Perfect Church!
Does this mean to give up and accept false teaching?
    • Abosulte Truth?
There is no ABSOLUTE Truth! Or can anyone really know or understand the truth?
    • Doctrine Divides! Love Unifies!
Love is more important than doctrine, we should all agree to disagree for the sake of unity! Is this really biblical or is unity without truth a myth?
    • Contending for the Faith not Doctrine??
In contending for the faith of a believer, doctrine should not be used. It’s about faith, not doctrine right? Contending for the faith with doctrine causes division – we need to maintain unity. Is this true??
    • Love Covers a Multitude of Sins
Does this mean turn a blind eye to sin, leave the issue alone{don’t confront or address it} —> just “love” the person despite what they are doing?
    • Eat the Meat and Spit Out the Bones
This phrase is usually used to silence someone pointing out the error in a mixed message – they are encouraged to accept the message because there is some good in it – is this really true?
    • Eat the Meat – Spit Out the Bones
more=> the immature are still drinking milk are in danger of choking on the bones
    • Matthew 18 Used to Silence Contenders
Does this scripture apply to public false teaching?
    • The Gamaliel Approach – do not assess, criticise or take action against a “move of God”, and if it is not of God it will die out by itself in time and fail. Do not ‘judge’, wait to see the results. Is this biblical?
    • The Wheat and the Tares — Does this parable in Mt 13 really say that you should not remove sin, error and deception from the church, for fear of uprooting the wheat?
    • Phil 1:18: As Long As Christ is Preached! — Does this mean we should welcome any and/or have unity with those who preach a “simple” gospel message? Does Philippians 1:18 defend this principle??
    • He Who Is Not Against Us Is ‘he’ really for us?
Is this really proof that Jesus did not want his disciples to try to stop any other teachers who call themselves followers of Christ?
